Frýdštejn is located between Jablonec nad Nisou and Turnov. It lies in the picturesque countryside of Český ráj, above the right bank of the Jizera River.

The dominant feature of Frýdštejn is the ruin of a medieval rock castle located on Vranovský hřeben. There are several timbered houses in the vicinity of the castle, currently used as holiday houses. For example, house No. 37 is interesting. It used to be a part of the extramural settlement of the former Frýdštejn Castle. A chapel dating back to 1823 also used to belong to the castle.

Frýdštejn is situated in the northern fringe of Český ráj. It is an ideal starting point for short or long excursions to the surrounding picturesque region which is full of historical and natural monuments. If you decide to go on a short hike, you may go to Malá skála on Vranovský hřeben or to Kopanina offering a nice view from the local viewing tower.
