The Giant Mountains are the highest and most visited mountain range in the whole Czech Republic. It is situated on the border with Poland, in the west it borders to the Jizera Mountains. The mountains are 38km long and up to 25 km wide. The highest mountain is called Sněžka, it is also the highest mountain of the Czech Republic.
 
 

The Giant Mountains offer many possibilities to spend free time in an active and attractive way. In winter it is naturally skiing, cross-country as well as downhill. The Giant Mountains have a long skiing history and nowadays there are many modern ski resorts – Špindlerův Mlýn, Pec pod Sněžkou, Rokytnice nad Jizerou, Harrachov, Benecko, Jilemnice, Vítkovice, Paseky nad Jizerou, Vysoké nad Jizerou, Vrchlabí, Janské Lázně, Malá Úpa, Černý Důl, Žacléř, Svoboda nad Úpou, Mladé Buky and others. For fans of cross-country skiing, there are many kilometers of well prepared tracks, so it is possible to hike through whole this area. There are ski-buses and winter-buses to make the transport easier.

A visit in the Giant Mountains is interesting all year round. In summer months, there are ideal conditions for hiking. If you are fit, you can try mountain biking and use special buses for bikers. A good net of hiking trails brings the visitors to the most beautiful and interesting places of the mountains, for example to the waterfall Mumlavský vodopád near Harrachov, dam Labská přehrada near Špindlerův Mlýn, springs of river Labe, view towers Štěpánka, Žalý and Černá Hora, as well as many museums.

Apart from skiing or hiking, there is a lot of other activities. If you like adventure, go to the the banked chute or rope centers in Harrachov, Špindlerův Mlýn and Pec pod Sněžkou. You can try hang gliding, snowmobiles, snowtubing, off road scooters or four-wheelers, bowling, play golf, tennis and many other traditional or modern sports.

The Giant Mountains offer a wide range of accommodation in all price categories, you can find here hotels, private places and mountain lodges. A suitable accommodation can be found in tourist resorts, which enable you to spend your holiday in a very active way, or in smaller places which offer privacy and peace.
